ch12

in chapter 12 i learned Planning for an implementing Technology. We also read about legal issues in the digital age, which are scary. Now days you have to be very carful with every thing you say and put on the Internet. There are copyright laws just like any other thing. You don’t want to post anything that your students, bosses and you student’s parents could find offensive.  This would be very bad. The repercuations of this could be very serious, like being fired, or sued in a courtroom. Technology can be very helpful if you use it the right way but can hurt you as much as it helps if you don’t practice good habits.

Chapter 11

This chapter was very informative. I was not aware of all of the technology standards and requirements. The only standard that I was familiar with was NCLB. I think it is great that there is online training for teachers to learn more about technology in the classroom. I definitely agree that teachers need to expand their skills to keep up with emerging technology. I would be embarrassed if my students knew certain technology better than myself. I think it is good that states are requiring certification and licensures for technology requirements. I think this will hold teachers accountable.

I know as a future educator I will need to keep up with the new technologies. I feel very confident and comfortable with the technology I have learned throughout college. I can only hope that my classroom and district will provide me with the tools that I would love to use. I hope one day I can have a Smart Board in my classroom. My parents are both teachers and they use their Smart Board often. I know that if the school can’t afford one there are ways to get grants. I will definitely look into that when I become a teacher.

 Chapter 10

Chapter 10. Through chapter 10 I have learned about distance education. I feel that I am experienced in this area because I am taking an online course this summer, as all of you are.  The readings have thought us that technology bridges the time/location gap. This is big for teachers because there is not a lot of extra time to play around with. This can also help students because they are able to take the class and study on their time. Again time becomes less of an issue with technology. I’m my classroom I might have students take part in an online discussion group. I feel this gets students involved in the readings as well they are interacting with other students.

Chapter 9

In this chapter I learned about audiovisual technologies. I thought it was interesting learning about broadcast audio. I agree that it could enhance learning with current events. I could see myself using the radio for international news and national news. It is awesome that these sites are available. I liked that throughout this chapter it showed examples of good visual communication and what to look for when deciding if it is a good visual or not. I am a visual learner and organization is a huge thing that I look for while learning and studying. When I need to memorize concepts I always make flash cards to help visualize the information. I also learned about felt boards while reading and I also learned about flip charts. It is nice to be reminded of all of these different ideas because I feel when you are teaching older students teachers tend to be basic and boring. I definitely think bringing technology and awesome visuals will make my classroom stand out and make my students entertained and intrigued!

There was a lot of information I learned about video cameras on line. I just downloaded SKYPE and I think it is a great free program to use. It could be used in the classroom if a student it at home and can be at school. This could be a great way that I could help them if they were too sick to come to school. I would enjoy using video technology in my classroom. I could also have parent meetings through Skype if parents are unavailable to come to the school.

Chapter 8

This chapter focused on using the web for teaching and learning. I was unaware of all of the tools for teachers that are free on the internet! I learned that there are classroom management tools that are downloadable or online tools for teachers. I really liked that idea that there are test generators and electronic grade books on line. I knew that you could find lesson plans on line but I was unaware of the amount of worksheets that you could get on line as well! I liked reading about the idea of Keypal assignments. I think that would be a neat idea to have my students do. I would like to have a class web site in the future. I think this will make it easy to communicate with parents. If they are aware of what is going in the classroom I think it will help their child’s performance.

I will use the tools that are available on the internet to enhance my teaching. The only thing that is frustrating is the filtering behind the internet. I understand that there are items and articles that need to be blocked but the amount of things that you can’t access seems to be ridiculous. At schools I have been apart of and had to use their computers I felt annoyed that I could access certain sites. I wanted to find pictures of extinct animals and they filtered many sites that I wanted to enter. I think that is the only draw back with using the internet. I think my best bet would be to save the image on a flash drive and then play it on the desktop instead of through the internet.

Chapter 7

This chapter discussed the internet and the World Wide Web. I learned about the anatomy of a URL and the way it is set up. While reading this chapter I was introduced to different graphic formats as well. I never knew what a FTP was before reading this chapter. I read that they are sites of downloaded files.

After reading this chapter I gained many useful ideas to use while teaching. Being a future history teacher I think it will be great to stream video and audio for my students. I will definitely use graphics, audio, and videos within my teaching. I also will use discussion boards and chat rooms for further discussion. In college I have used many discussion boards and on line communication and I would love to use it while teaching high school age students as well. I can only hope that my students will have access to the internet at home to do assignments and discussions.

Chapter 6

This chapter focused on academic software. While reading this chapter I remembered using most of this software while growing up. I also have seen much of this software while observing in classrooms. I see more of the software for younger grades but also in upper high school grades as well. I enjoyed learning about paint programs. I think some students may not like to draw and this would be a great tool to use if you were uncomfortable drawing or painting. In this chapter I learned about problem-solving software and mapping software.

I think this chapter makes you aware of the different styles of learning. I think that some students really enjoy learning from a computer and certain software programs. I definitely would love to have as many educational games and software programs in my classroom to use to teach. I agree that academic software encourages creativity and deeper understanding for students. I think if there is any down time during class or if any students would finish assignments early they could use an educational software program to gain more knowledge
